Plan for outages before they happen, and communicate quickly when they do.

Setup:

  • A UPS for your router and modem. Even a small one keeps your internet up during short power cuts. Your laptop battery covers the computer.
  • A backup internet connection: a mobile data plan on your phone or a separate router, from a different provider than your main connection if possible.
  • A charged power bank for your phone.
  • For longer cuts: know a nearby place with power and internet (a co-working space or café) you can move to.

Habits:

  • Push your work often (commit and push frequently), so nothing is stuck on your laptop.
  • Keep a status message or quick-message template ready: "Power cut in my area. I'm on mobile data and may be slower to respond for the next hour."
  • Tell your team in advance about scheduled outages.

In interviews, mention your setup when asked about remote work. It addresses a real concern employers have.
