Remote trust comes from visibility and reliability. Make your work and progress easy to see.

First 30 days: learn and set expectations

  • Ask your manager: "What does success look like for me in 30, 60 and 90 days?"
  • Agree on how you'll communicate: a daily written update, weekly one-on-ones, preferred channels.
  • Ship something small early, like a bug fix or a small improvement.

Days 30–60: deliver reliably

  • Give short written updates: what you did, what's next, any blockers.
  • Flag problems early: "This is taking longer than expected because X. Here are my options."
  • Write clear pull request descriptions and document what you learn.

Days 60–90: take ownership

  • Own a feature or area end to end.
  • Suggest improvements, with reasons.
  • Help others in team channels.

Habits that build trust remotely:

  • Respond within your agreed hours.
  • Be visible in shared channels rather than only in private messages.
  • Keep your status and calendar up to date.
  • Do what you said you'd do, or tell people early if you can't.
